my main photo subjects will be the outdoors sea boaats ect and family

Or wouid anybody suggest a good set up that will last a few years

not going be used every day just fancy something that will be half decent when i want it but still got to be something i can use or learn to use.

Got a few quid saved and with 4 kids that was not easy ! dont want to waste money just want a camea that i can use propley call my own if you know what meen.

thanks for the reply

A DSLR has a steeper learning curve than a bridge, and obviously inst as convenient, BUT.. The image quality and the fact you can upgrade it with better/ different lenses, fiddle with settings etc makes it a no brainer for me.

The 550d still has auto and scene modes, so you could get decent pics from the off without having to know much about it. You can then spend time learning the manual controls and taking your pictures to a new level.

The resale value on DSLR's are much better than bridge's so give it a go. If you find its too much, you should be able to sell on at little loss.

i know what you mean ot 4 girls under 6 my self and i think you should go and find somewhere you can play with both off them , the hs10 is great and for the money you get alot of camera, but if your gonna be taking lots of pics of the kids its gotta be a dslr, also the high iso is a great advantage for indoor photography.

I went for a compact when i really wanted a DSLR, a year later i bought an SLR and have not looked back. I love my 400d, the 550 is a great camera. You can use it in Auto mode, or fully manual.

As already said you can upgrade your lens when and as you see fit. Go for it!
