Hi again.

After buying my XT10, I'm in the hunt for a nice prime.

What are your opinions of these two?

Will be used for a bit of everything really; street and candid photography and some low light work.

I know the 18mm is f2, so will fare better in some areas, but is it as sharp?

I've got around £180 to spend, and would really appreciate your advice! Thanks!

I've seen both for the £170 mark, so my choice is between them (budget doesnt allow for the 35mm!).

The 27mm on the XT10 is a really compact setup. I slip it in my coat pocket or bag and it's dead useful on a day out when you don't want to take a bag. The lack of an aperture dial on the barrel is annoying though.

Subjectively, I'd say the 18mm is sharper. Never done a side by side pixel peep though. I tend to use the 27mm a bit more due to its small size and I've always liked the 35mm focal length in full frame, so this is similar.

Both are good lenses though, and you won't be disappointed with either.

Thanks for all the advice.

I've opted for the 27mm!

I also have the 27mm and find it a more useful focal length than 18mm. The one negative for me is that being a pancake lens, there's not enough to get hold of with my left hand and I found a finger or 2 strayed across the front of the lens. I resolved it by getting the metal hood for it although this makes it slightly less pocketable of course.

On the note about the lack of an aperture ring, it's one of the reasons I like the lens. I find the aperture rings a little loose on the smaller lenses and I tend to knock it too easily.

Ah that is great advice, thank you. Luckily I've got quite small hands, so I'm hoping to not have much issue. But if I do, I'll be sure to check out the hood! Thank you :-)
