Hi
I wonder if anyone can give me a bit of help with the above.
I am stuck indoors for at least the next 8 weeks so I thought I would have a go at OCF.
I have a Fuji XT-1 with its little supplied flash and a Nissin i40.
I am looking for a cheap way to get a flash off camera , the nissin does not have a sync port .
As far as I can find out it works in wireless mode as a slave but I am unsure if it works as a master
Any thoughts without spending loads of cash will be appreciated.
Thanks

Chris

I have zero experience of either your camera or flash but can find nothing online to indicate that they have connectors, which means that the only way forward seems to be to plug a radio trigger into your camera hotshoe and the flash hotshoe can be fitted to a matching radio receiver like this one https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/1669049666...orPRPRetriever&_trksid=p2322090.c100534.m4207

Well, probably not that one because they post it from Hong Kong, but anything of that type from a UK supplier should work perfectly. That sort of price point doesn't usually give great quality but there are plenty of more expensive versions with the same fittings if you want something better.

I'm assuming here that your camera has the standard hotshoe fitting.

I have an i40, and it has an internal slave that is triggered by another flash (the light) and before I had some wireless gizmo's I used it to light up the underside of a mushroom in the garden like this. You will have to shoot everything in manual and it's a bit trial & error, but it works.

I now have a Godox set up with Godox X1-T trigger so I can shoot off camera TTL if I want to...

I used mine on an X-T2, but it should all work on a T1.

Edit: I should add that to use the i40 as "proper" wireless flash, you need another Nissin unit to be the master.

Thanks for that I will have a play

Yes, you can use it as a slave with a second flashgun, but it won't be ideal for your needs because you'll get unwanted light from the flash mounted on the camera, which is the worst possible place for it to be for your projects (and for most other things)

Your best solution is probably to get a Godox flash and trigger set, but your cheapest solution is the one that I suggested.

@troutfisher if you want to have a go with studio lights then let me know on this thread and I'll post a for sale advert, I have a couple of Lencarta SmartFlash 200's with brolly/softbox stanads etc and the remote trigger. They work with a Fuji camera, I used then with X-E2 and X-T1. They could be going cheap!

Thanks for the offer but I am only looking at playing with my little table top set up so I think they would be overkill

Canon TTL cables are compatible with Fuji and while Wireless is preferable seen from a freedom of moving around pov they Work fine with all features enabled.

Thanks for all the help, yes you can trigger the i40 with the pop up flash but as Jester says its a bit hit and miss ,and you are using the pop up flash which is not ideal ,looking at the options I think I will get some of the flash triggers that Jester has which seem to be the same as Garys Ebay ones.
Thanks for everyones input

Chris
