Yes
Sold a Fuji lens that was like new on ebay and the buyer says the focus ring is faulty because it makes a noise when turned.

So I disputed this because the lens was literally like new.

He sent me a link to a video of him turning the manual focus ring very very quickly back and forth to produce a "grinding noise" according to him.

Then I tried the same with a xc kit lens doing it quickly as he did and it seemed to also make a noise similar.

Anyway demanding full refund and I included RMSD in price and would be forced to pay return postage so will lose £15+ if ebay vote to force me to return it.

Am I in the wrong, does a Fuji lens focus ring make a noise when turned very quickly. Does it say in the manual not to turn it fast back and forth.

What lens is it?

I would rather not say. It is a XF prime. The reason I don't want to say is because people on this forum have a habit of quoting me and putting it in my sales threads completely out of context and inappropriately

Even worse is when people quote you completely in contex and appropriately. :-)

I was really just asking in case it was one I had (or someone else had) where we could check our own example.

That said, you'd still have to convince your buyer it was normal. Ebay won't do much to help you I'm afraid.

eBay unfortunately usually sides with the purchaser (they tend to follow the law as it would apply to a trader rather than an individual where caveat emptor is still the main legal position).

What would be good is if eBay would recognise third party “expert” arbitration. For example in this case is the lens was to be sent to a third party repairer or to Fuji for assessment. If the “claim” of broken equipment was considered valid the seller pays for the third party report, if the claim is invalid the purchaser must pay.

I have not had that yet, I seem to get very dodgy people who try their best to put a bad spin on things to get items cheaper or get me to lower price. Gutter tactics I call them

So you plan to try to sell this potentially faulty lens in the classified section here?

It wouldn't be difficult to find out what it is anyway. I'll check my example of that lens later and let you know.

I know its not faulty but I am asking for a second opinion because it is a serious matter. He was spinning it as fast as he possibly could in the video he sent me. Like very fast to produce a noise. I used that lens for months and it was perfect

Why on earth is he spinning it fast, has he even tested the lens on the body....... does it work?
Sounds like a bit of tool imo :D

That's what I am telling him. It is not right to use the lens with force to the focus ring back and forth like a mad man. If it is broken then likely he cause it with that ridiculous test he is doing.

I think he simply changed his mind and looked for a way out knowing ebay would likely force me to refund and I pay return cost.

I lose £15+ and some jack ass has been a fool with the focus ring

Oh he has mysteriously closed the case. That was so strange, who tests a lens by forcing the focus ring violently to see if it makes a noise

Good news!

I'd rather sell on here and take a 15% loss if I had to than deal with the utter bellends on eBay.

I tend to agree..... eBay isn't like it once used to be......

Incredibly because of the £1 seller fee I actually ended up over the moon with joy.

But yes so many dodgy people on ebay,
