Fuel duty increase is postponed

A fuel duty decrease would be nice if you're not too busy Mr Darling :D

Absolutely irrelevant as fuel will have increased by that amount anyway.

Guys I know who trade energy reckon £2 a litre by end of next year.

I read yesterday heating oil (which many, including me use) has gone up by 88% in the last year!

the clue in that is "posponed" :P double next time it goes up

Woop woop, well done Gordon you have just won my vote at your next election.

Oh hang on, you have not won an election yet have you? So how the **** are you in power?

Oh dear, why are you all so ungrateful to Gordon? :bang:

If it wasn't for Gordon and Tony we would have all been victims of terrorism by now. I think Gordon has been really, really genorous giving this to us  remember we have caused all the problems with the economy by buying food, energy etc. and not managing our money properly.

We should all hold hands, have a group hug and help the problems go away for poor Gordon who is just being victimised by the press :)

Steve

mmm it's about time we had a change -

clearly the people in charge are well ..... pants...

the main opposition are in need of a leader that is not a PRATT

the third party sacked the best leader they ever had because he liked to get ****ed - along with 75% of the population (a good leader in my view)

my suggestion - get the TOP GEAR guys to run the country, or plan B a bunch of 5 year old kids to do the job....

would they do a worse job???

ps
//Rant off

It is simply too late to try and win back the suffering motorist, and the general public with this feeble effort, Gordon, you are doomed:thumbsdown:

Not managing our money properly???
Its the greedy BANKS that havent managed our money properly! They gave out mortgages and loans like it was going out of fashion topeople who should never have gotten them in a million years! Now its US that are paying for THEIR (greedy) mistakes.
That and all the Buy to Let and Property developes who pushed the prices through the roof and killed off the first time buyer market.
The extra revinue the Gov is making from the increased fuel prices is WAY more than a paltry 2p rise in tax.

Would someone be kind enough to show me the exit UK sign?

I really have had enough now...

I really have had enough now...

Remember reading recently that Canada, or was it Australia were relaxing the rules and requirements for immigration. We considered it shortly after we were married, went to a few seminars, filled in the application forms then got cold feet. Few of my mates at the time went ahead with it and have never looked back.
If I were younger I definitely would give it a go, are you young enough Hep despite your balding head:), the entrance is there, just need to find the exit.

Such people aren't exactly blameless when it comes to increases in energy costs. It's speculators that have also helped hike the prices.

Unfortunately this does not appear to be the case. The oil speculators are buying oil futures, not oil - in essence they are betting on what the price of oil will be in the future. Saying that they are driving up the price of oil makes as much sense as saying that Red Rum won a lot of races because of all the people who bet money on it.

To drive up the price of petrol at the pumps you would need to take oil out of the market, hoard it somehow. Oil inventories don't appear to be abnormally high at all.

Unfortunately some group of people is pushing this myth quite hard, probably for political advantage.

While I can understand the political arguement I'd also think that if you were investing heavily in oil futures then it's going to be in your own interest to ensure that the market meets or exceeds your expectation.

Heaven forbid that speculators could influence a market eh?

at the end of the day if we didnt use so much of it then it wouldnt be so expensive.

i'm looking forward to the day when the world doesnt use so much oil. The politics of the planet will be so different and the middle east will be screwed (lets face it they dont have a lot else to give us)

Can't say I entirely agree with that. You only have to look at technology, computer memory especially.

Newest technology chips = very expensive
Mainstream technology chips = affordable
old technology chips = price increasing again
Obsolete technology chips = cheap as chips!

It wouldn't matter how much or little we use, the price will still go up. I'm budgeting for £3/litre in 2010. In fact I'm budgeting for an overall increase in my daily expenses of 25% over the next 2 years. I doubt my income will keep pace so my outgoings will have to be cut. Not too sure how much more I can realistically trim from my budget so at some point I'll just quit eating and breathing ;)

ps: anyone want to buy one of my photo's? I need to fill the car up !!

the thing is they can only put the price up if people still buy it at that price.

Some people have no choice :D

Being in road transport I have no choice, it's either buy the fuel at whatever price or cease trading, all I do is pass it on up the chain, unfortunately eventually that chain leads back to me as the final consumer.

I really think the government has entered the suicide zone, they know they're dead at the next election so they have nothing to lose

you can guarantee any money making schemes they come up with before the next general election will be carried on by the winning government in the way Labour carried on with the Conservatives fuel duty escalator for years.

I wonder how high the price of fuel will have to go before we get the riots and protests like we saw in the 1990s over the poll tax.

I heard on the radio today a figure that astounded me, this war in Iraq/Afghanistan is costing us £3.5 Billion a year, that's why they're not prepared to drop the fuel tax, we're paying for it.

Like it said on a sign on the A580, Rich man's war, poor mans blood:(
