Hi my name is Mak
I'm a wedding photographer I currently use a D90 along with my Nikon 24-70 f2.8
I want a full Frame next what do you guys think?

Just upgraded to a D600 from D5100 and all I can say is the difference is massive. The dynamic range and detail is awesome. The body feels good to me and the low light capabilities speak for itself. Yes it does have a dust problem initially but nothing a blow out or swab can't fix easily.

Sounds wicked I can't wait to get mine, what lens are you using on it?

I had a similar dilemma a while ago and ended up choosing the D700. But that was around when the D600 was first released and there was more of a price difference than now.

The main reasons for the D600 are:

  • Dual card slots (for obvious reasons)
  • Slightly better ISO performance
  • 24MP vs 12MP means more ability to crop if desired
  • Slightly better dynamic range
  • Quiet mode

The things I'd consider though before you take the plunge are:

  • Focus points are more bunched in the middle. How much does that impact your shooting style?
  • Apparently AF is slower…not noticed it myself when I've had a play.
  • Oil/Dust issues allegedly
  • Limited track record. The D700 has been used for years at weddings, took the knocks and kept on clicking. Will the D600 be able to endure the knocks, drops and spills?
  • Max shutter speed of 1/4000 and slower flash sync speed. Is that an issue? Probably not.

If I had to make the same decision again I'd now probably choose the D600 mainly because of the dual card slots. But then I've been scarred by a corrupt SD card. YMMV.

To be fair you'd be set with either camera really. So my advice would be to see if you can grab a mint condition low mileage D700 for a princely sum. If not then go for the D600.

I've used the d600 and the af system is pretty fast and seen as I'm going from a D90 it will be a big change for me.. Thanks I'm getting a D600 for sure

Sorry if I've got the wrong end of the stick however it's not clear from your intro.

Do you just have a D90 and a 24-70 lens? If going FF are you planning on keeping the D90 as a backup? Back up lenses and bodies are fundamental if you're in the trade IMO.

Also, if used to the 24-70 on DX will you miss the extra "reach" when going FF or will you be supplementing your camera bag with additional lenses?

I had a D700 and loved it to bits but be warned, you really do need good glass in front of the bodies to make them shine.

Hi yh once I get my FF il use the D90 as a back up with my 50mm 1.4 Nikon
But I will be using my FF with a Nikon 24-70 2.8
That's professional glass so I know it would shine
I also have a 85 1.8 for studio work

Fair enough....but you should really think about backups to your main lenses and maybe also consider longer length lenses like a 70-200/80-200 2.8.
