I used to use my right eye but found that if I use my left eye then my thumb and the camera block my right eye without me having to squint it closed which when shooting all day I find much more comfortable

I think I must be 'wrong handed', my photos never turn out anything like the quality on here, even the bad one!

You could add "both eyes" for live view shooters. (or do they shoot with one eye too :D)

I've always felt my left eye is stronger, so that's my reason. It's best for getting smudges all over the LCD too :bang:

Left handed, Right eye!! :)

They don't count, they're odd :nono:

Tell me about it, splesh as you don't get a protective cover on the D3s, I didn't use it anger for the first week :)

Right & right but I often keep my left eye open so I can see what's going on outside the viewfinder.

Yeah - that's my ultimate aim. I'm getting better at it but it doesn't come naturally.

Sometimes my eye not looking through the find get's a bit funny after a while so I switch. And depending on which direction I shoot, i.e. over left or right shoulder, I'll choose the closest eye.

Actually, I'm ambidextrous at darts... i.e. crap with both hands

Well, for years (more than I am willing to admit!) I was right & right, keeping my left closed. However, my pics started to suffer for some reason. I read a thread on here talking about this subject and keeping both eyes open was mentioned, so I tried it. I found that I could not focus my right eye very well with both opened, so I tried using my left eye on the viewfinder and what do you know! perfect! It was a hell of a job getting used to doing it that way and still (when in a hurry to take a pic) offer my right eye to the viefinder occasionally, but with the the diopter set for my left eye I have to switch it quickly.

I thought it was so natural to be right handed and use left eye! Apparently not. I am trying the right eye and get a crick in my neck!:suspect:

Right handed but i use either eye, theres not an option for that so i went ambidextrous eyes :)

Left handed and naturally use my left eye.

Forced myself when I started out with DSLRs to use both eyes and now can use either naturally.

I always thought it was best to use your stronger eye. Did anyone set out with that intention or did you just go with what came naturally...?

For me, as a leftie, it's good to see there's quite a good turnout of left-eyed shooters :)

I'm R/H and shoot left eye, not by design, just the way I shoot. I think I read somewhere, that you can hold the camera steadier that way

Just been playing like a prat in front of the mirror, I do seem to tuck it into my shoulder, which does help hold it steady and I use my left arm to support my right elbow. So with body facing forward I always shoot to the left at 45 degrees. Hhhmm..... never thought about it before :)

My left eye's actually better than my right but I wear a contact lens in my right so its vision (with the lens in) is better than the left. Started shooting right eyed because it mant I could wind the camera on without moving it away from my face.

Another vote for right and right

I'm the freak then!!! I'm the only person who voted ambidextrous hands and eyes.

I'll happily use both eyes (with the other kept open) when doing sport. I'll also use left hand on laptop and right hand on camera, or vice versa at a push (and it's something easy like cricket).

Do you also sleep with your eyes open???

I have tried having both eyes open, i think its a skill that definitely needs working on!!

It's very helpful skill too...I found it worked rather nicely at Thruxton a few years ago when I was in a dodgy location and seeing that the cars were further away than they appeared through 600mm focal length was quite calming!

I think otherwise i'd have been constantly moving backwards.

I found when shooting guns I don't have a dominant eye, I can shoot with either or both. :)

I'm 80% ambidexterous with my hands too and can play a few sports either left or right handed which came in handy playing tennis, saved all that running about :)

Right handed and left eye
Cack handed or what? lol

Right eye, Right hand...steps off with left foot...

It's odd you have posted this poll, as I was think about this same issue recently.

I am left handed and I use my left eye, which got me thinking I of course hold the camera in my right hand so should I be trying to use my right eye, so I look with my left eye.?

No one makes a "lefthanded" camera, but I think it would be odd as I am so use to using my righthand.

I'm right handed, though I shoot (guns) and ride (horses) left handed, I use my left eye for togging though, as the only way for me to close only my left eye is to use my finger! :cuckoo:

I am right right, but I keep my left eye open when shooting so that I can follow the action.

Anyone else?
