Following Rock the Priory during the summer the local paper used the images and when I spoke to the editor he recommended me to the photo agency that handles all the images for the Herts & Essex group newspapers.

I'm being made redundant on 20th December (Merry Christmas from ntl:Telewest ) and whilst I'm job hunting I thought I'd better try and find some local work so as not to eat into my redundancy money too much until I can find regular employment again. I went to see the agency on Friday and it looks like I'm going to be doing some freelance work for them on a daily basis and I've got my 'trial shift' this Friday from 1pm - 9.30pm, covering all sorts of different events and stories.

I just wanted to know if there was anyone who has maybe done this before and could give me advice on what to expect, any pitfalls I might encounter and what to look out for.

Thanks,

Colin.

Colin,

Have covered a few daily rate/jobs and it is ok. One thing is that you never know what the subject can be, from a fete to a vicar getting a new car to sitting outside someones house, to covering a death related incident.

You will be fine. One thing to find out is are they expecting the images back via FTP or email as soon as you have shot?

Good luck.

Pete.

Not done this type of thing myself Colin, but whilst looking for some Christmas idea's the other day did notice a couple of books on the subject...

HERE and HERE

They could be worth a read and don't look like they'll break the bank either.

Good luck with this.....

Just realised it's Children in Need this Friday :help: - methinks it's going to be busy.

Diego - pics can be sent by email or ftp but they are not daily papers so not so much urgency.

Cool. Good news. Enjoy.

My only advice now is to shoot in full manual and really make your camera work for you mate.

Let us know how you get on.

Pete

Good luck Colin! Let us know if you get anything in Harlow and I'll actually READ the Star for a change rather than just using it to lay out the Friday night chinese on!

You'll be fine! But good luck anyway!

No worries Col ... stay kool and just do what you already do well ...
