The worldwide Freecycle Network is made up of many individual groups across the globe. It's a grassroots movement of people who are giving (and getting) stuff for free in their own towns.

It's a pretty cool thing really, people offer items they no longer need or want and then if someone wants it they come and collect it from your door. We've given away quite a few things, and got a whole lot of stuff from our local group, including a piano and a TV!

You're unlikely to get camera gear, but you never know

I've got rid of stuff on there - but not camera gear. I think I got rid of 2 stereos and a computer... I've never actually taken anything from it though - oh well!

We got rid of loads of stuff before we moved to Cumbria 18 months ago. Its a great way to recycle, most recipients are very grateful but some expect the earth; human nature I suppose. I have noticed the local West Cumbria site is not policed as well as the Chelmsford one was.

I havent been on my local one for a while as it got a bit sillly with people asking if anyone was getting rid of laptops. lcd tv's and such like. Shame really as on the whole it was quite genuine. I am hoping it was a phase that will pass as i have both recieved and given stuff away and was grateful for both

ive never looked at the cumbria one, might have a look

I got rid of some DVDs and Nike trainers a while back. Never been lucky when it comes to getting anything from anyone as I never once got a reply. I stopped subscribing to the emails last year.

Freecycle is pretty good for getting rid of stuff. I've managed to offload quite a lot of stuff and obtained a laser printer, an inkjet printer :D

And yes there are ridiculous requests for LCD's high spec laptops etc - now there has been at least 3 requests for photography equipment and lenses in the last week or 2 :| I wouldn't part with any of my gear in that way
