Giveaway of the Day has uMark, a watermarking program, as today's freebie.

I don't know if it is any good, but there have been a few requests for this type of program, and it's free, so it might be worth a try.

EDIT: A review of this program here. Seems it's OK but could be better.

just downloaded this thought i might as well give it a go, gonna try it out in a minute.

Downloaded and tried the program. Initially it looked a good and useful utility, but every time I tried to work on a photo pf 3.5mb, the program crashed saying it was out of memory (there is no memory shortage on my computer), and I had to restart the program. Additionally I couldn’t get a large enough watermark, even when I set the font to size 72 I only got the smallest of watermarks in whatever position I had selected, after that it crashed so I cant say any more about the results.
Perhaps its me doing something wrong, but I cant see any further adjustments to try. Pity really, it looks a good program and one that would be good to have, am only too pleased I hadn’t bought and paid for it though. I hope its me and that anyone else trying it has better luck.

When I went onto the download site, McCafee security warned me that there had been reports of spy and malware activity on some of the downloads. I downloaded the program and saved it separately before installing it on the PC, it came out clear when scanned so maybe McCafee is being over cautious.

I feel I should make an addition to my previous comments. I tried this program on my lap top and it worked ok. I then uninstalled it from the PC, cleared out the registry and tried again, success.
The biggest downside I can see is that the watermark doesn’t proportion itself for different size pictures, so on a large picture you have to use a font size of maybe 200 or so, and on a smaller one, it could be 100 or less, it’s a case of trial and error. That’s ok on individual pictures but if you’re doing a batch job with different size pictures, it does give different size watermarks on each picture.
Apart from that, it seems a reasonable program, perhaps not the best but a useful one for all that, and worth having as a free program.
