hi all

i wonder if there is anyone on here who can point me in the right direction or help me out.

i have recently set up a company and my website needs some pics.

i am doing the site myself using Moonfruit. and it is now live, but lacking in pics. my skills are nowhere near good enough yet, and i am short of props.

so i was wondering what websites are best for free pictures which i can use on my site? are there any??

or would anyone on here be willing to give me some photos for nowt? you would of course be credited on my site, and i would be happy to put a link on my site to your flikr or website...

my company does structural engineering, small scale stuff. so i am looking for pictures of pencils / rulers / calculators on a desk... hard hats.... basically building design or building related pictures. something along these lines would be ideal (hopefully links are allowed):

thank you

I expect you'll be doing structural engineering projects free of charge?

Have you tried looking at sites such as istock? Not free but the pictures are very cheap (read pennies) and for me if people are happy to sell their work for such sums, then go ahead and buy it.

touché awp... you are quite right, perhaps i am appealing to the amateurs of this world. i know this is a touchy subject on here.

swag72.. thanks for your suggestion, i didn't realize they were so cheap... i thought i would have to subscribe or pay 2-3 quid per pic. i shall take a look now.

2-3 quid is not exactly expensive for a photo...even an amateur should not give there photo's away, but then I suppose that is there choice if they do

Although I don't always agree with what AWP has to say this is an area where I agree with him ;)

Whereabouts are you? relevant if you'd prefer your own hands/mugshot in the frame..

And whilst not for free.. would you consider a deferred payment option, i.e. nowt up-front but perhaps a better rate later with the photographer taking the gamble that you're actually any good at what you do?

To be honest, this is something you should have included in your business plan (start up expenses). Photos will probably have quite a large role for promoting/advertising purposes and should not have been overlooked until now. I'm sure you will get some help here but it's definitely worth re-evaluating this for the future! Good luck.

there arent many free stock image sites around but i have used this one in the past: http://www.sxc.hu/

but you should consider paid for stock sites such as shutterstock, istockphoto, alamy....as they will have a better range of images and they're not too expensive.

or are you looking for a photographer to take specific shots for you on commission? if so, good luck finding a free tog!
