I might be in a minority but I quite like HDR pictures , well some of them anyways, so I tried a few different trial softwares.
One was very easy to use and gave hdr effect to just one jpeg by copying it and chhanging the exposure of one.
I don't "love" the results, but they are an effect of sorts. the software is dynamic-photo hdr... its free so can't grumble for an evening's fiddling. So I thought you might like to see..

I like the last shot but the sun is far too distracting in 1 & 2 for me personally.

I am currently playing around in photomatix and getting mixed results...

Out of interest, which software is it?

Guess this is it

Looks like it's not free is $55 although a free trial can be downloaded which leaves a watermark on the processed photo

I like the third one very much, well done.

That'll teach me to read posts while the boss isn't looking! Will have a look at it when I get home.

I like your images!

THanks guys, I certainly wasn't showing off my photos I was just playing about to see what effect I could get from one jpeg and thought others might be interested. You are right about the free version but TBH I'm using the free version and have just cut the watermark off the bottom. I tried Photomatix also but it didn't like my files (olyraw) and wouldn't do anything with 1 jpeg..maybe i should give it another look.
I was trying it out because I like wildlife pictures really and also like the high drama of hdr but I can't see getting 3 differently exposed shots of any animal or bird (unless its on a road :) ) so was trying to find something to simulate it ...
mixed results I guess but ok for nothing (if you don't mind cutting of the watermark..

I use this programme and really like it. I have some pics I made with the software here:

mmm, looks like you've got the use of it considerably better than me? are you doing it the proper way ie 2 or 3 raws? if so how did uyou get the dog (a beauty btw) and bird? THey look good, like I was after;)

Thanks for the generous comments - actually only the top 3 photos are HDR, the rest are just developed a bit in Lightroom. I used 3 RAW exposures for the HDR ones and aligned them in the program. I have yet to try adjusting one exposure and creating an HDR, but it sounds like a sensible option.

Which version did you try? I don't have a problem with my E3 raw files. If yours fails you could use Oly Master to convert the orf files to tif files (even generating different exposures from a single orf). Photomatix can work on those instead.

good point it might have been an old version , i could download the new trial version...

If you like the HDR effect without the weirdness, then try this program called Picturenaut.
Its donationware (so free).. Works really well without the look the Photomatrix can give an image if not layered further in PS. Worth a try..

Thanks, I'll try that today.

I have Photomatix Pro too but find it harder to use (especially the tone mapping section) but I'll have fun learning how it works.

I gather HDR is not popular? Personally, I think they look really good and once I have a bit more experience and time, I will be giving it a go.

I think it's controversial among purists and post processing fans, but to me, it's just another way of picturing a scene. Sometimes it's appropriate, sometimes it looks a bit naff (like my examples!) but mainly it's just a bit of fun to experiment with, like any post processing software.
