i recently purchased lightroom 2 for my mac but was wondering firstly, can u frame photos in lr? and if so, how do you?

Frame? Do you mean border them? If so there is a plug-in called BorderFX but it needs some tweaking to get working.
 
Do you mean place a border around the image upon export.

If so then have a look at the LR2 Mogrify plug in, it will do bordering for you and allow you to add watermark or logo onto image at export.

yeh thats what im looking for, a black boarder and ideally a watermark. which ones best?
 
In Lightroom go into the print module and in the panel on the right hand side is a border option and watermark section too. Simples.
 
As mentioned above LR Mogrify is well worth buying.
