I have 2-3 images I am looking to print at a reasonable size this year, image bigger than A4 plus the Matt, so cost is starting to be an issue. Small images I get it wrong I can just reprint, and I'm not down much but at larger sizes the print costs look like they add up fast. Even my test prints to finalise paper (and print size) will run me more than I was hoping to spend!

My issue is that 3:2 frames seem to be quite rare unless you order custom ones, and I am wondering why seeing as 35mm has been 3:2 for over a century, I'm guessing as larger print tended to come from MF or view cameras.

Should I be using a 4:5 or 7:5 frame then matting down the difference to produce a more natural finished look? I have no problem ordering a custom matt as this seems to be the cheaper way round vs a custom frame.

I've tried to crop the images differently but it removes the breathing room in the image and just looks odd to me.
