I've noticed a lot of people who are using their Nikon camera's onboard flash to trigger off-camera speedlights wondering how to prevent it contributing to the exposure.
We all know you can turn it down, but not off, which is still far from ideal.
That's only the screen part of the SG-3IR, not the whole thing, you would still need to make up something to attach it to the camera with....
Pop up the on board flash and go to Menu > Custom Setting Menu (Pencil symbol on the left) > e Bracketing/Flash > e3 Built in flash > Commander Mode. Go to the first box right of where it says Built in and scroll down until -- is entered in the box. Once you have done this it will only fire a pre-flash although it might look like it is firing the onboard flash as both go off within a split second of each other.
I think you're missing the point![]()
The point was that quite a few people have posted asking how to get rid of the visible light emitted by the onboard flash when used in command mode and using either the SG3-IR or the Photomart filter is how to do it.
What Hacker suggests doesn't prevent the emission of visible light from the onboard flash, which is what the original post was about.....And I am never wrong!!!
