For a course assignment i've been looking at (familial) objects that have been left behind either by mistake or on purpose in the family home after moving.
For instance, when my parents moved into their house they found a childs teddy bear left behind in the loft.
I was wondering if any of you had any similar experiences or know someone who has and what was it that was found and where?

I was then going to photograph these stories/objects in the same or similar locations.

Thanks :)

thats a great idea. my family have lived in the same house for 27 years and last year we got flooded, when we pulled the plaster of the wall it had writing from the people who lived their before us on the wall (cant remember what it said) and also a picture of the two twins they had as well (date pre war)

When we moved into the current house we found:
- Approx 10,000 leaflets for the local election compaign from the bloke who lived here before us
- A tent
- A harpoon gun (with harpoon)
- A very very large iron? lawn roller thing

and a fair amount of other cack

In our attic we found an old duffle coat, loads of kilner jars and a load of those plastic chips used to fill boxes(in this case we were told that it was the loft insulation:nono:).

When we started to decorate we found a copy of Motorcycle news folded up and used to fill the gap between a door frame and the wall:thinking:

Good luck if you replicate that:D:D

Some really great finds!

Thanks for all your help so far!

Will update you on my reconstructions!

:)

A few years ago i moved into a house & had the carpet fitters round
doing their stuff.
One chap came down from the master bedroom with a money bag.

It had £50 all in £5 notes inside.

He found it under a bit of carpet that was in a built in wardrobe.

I managed to get them changed down at the (then) T.S.B. & gave
him a tenner for his honesty

Really!?

Surprise someone can forget something like that!
Makes you wonder why and who they were hiding it from.

And Surprised that the decorator was so honest about it.

Thank you for your story!

when i moved into the house i am currently in, i was cleaning the cupboards ready to unpack my kitchen stuff in and found a champaign cork with 50 pence stuck in it..also under the cupboards was a brand new leather shoe..dont know why that was in there..lol found some other junk like postcards etc up in the loft and a rabbits foot in the shed..ewwww

Haha it is wierd.
Some items make me wonder why they wanted to leave them behind that seem to be of some sort of sentimental value.

Clog up the toilet up and leave your junk behind. Think that would annoy the next lot enough.

Thanks for everyones help so far as well, it is really helping! :)

double post

When I was a kid we found an old army kitbag in the shed of a house we moved into. It looked pretty grubby and was probably infested with fleas etc.

No-ne would go near it so come Nov 5th it went on the bonfire...... All the live ammunition in it made a spectacular display!!

Not that we actually saw much as everyone was diving for cover!

Funny you say about an old kit bag Neil, the camp I'm based at recently demolished an old barrack block, but before knocking down the central bulk of it, with clock tower, they found old pin-up magazines circa 50's as well as personal letters to soldiers from sweethearts dating back to WW2 (the clock tower was used as a sentry post) as well as more recent...ahem...adult reading material. Not really moving house I suppose, although for the years I lived in those blocks were my home.
