Yes
Just took delivery of a 1tb internal hd, jeez what a time it takes to format, just coming up for 3 hours and at 93%. Just as well I'm not in a hurry.

It'll take you a truckload of floppies and a mite more than 3 hours to backup that wee beastie.

With a new disk you shouldn't really need to do a full format. Quick Format should do as there shouldn't be any need to check for bad sectors.

Unless that IS quick format? In which case.... :cuckoo::bonk:

Done now Nathan, I always thought with a new disk that a full format was required, only after a full format then the quick method could be used in future...least it used to be with floppies anyway (I think).

Nope.

Nearly all disks come out of the factory already low level formatted so all your doing is recreating the TOC and with a full format running a check disk along side it.

Quick format just wipes and replaces the TOC.

Christ I've built servers with multi-TB arrays on them and I dread to think how long they'd take to do a full format! :S

:bonk::bonk: Doh! so I wasted 3 hours. Dammit. You live and learn eh! I'll know the next time.
