Just a little trivia for those who may be interested in the Bloodhound SSC land speed record project - the fuel pump will be powered by a full blooded Jaguar 5 litre supercharged 550PS V8 engine. All that power for a fuel pump? Well, yes, since it'll need to pump 40 litres of Hydrogen Peroxide every second! It'll also be providing the necessary hydraulic services. Jaguar will also be providing a couple of support vehicles for the attempt, including the recently announced F-Type AWD R Coupé.

Not read anything into this, but an engine to power the fuel pump alone?...mother of god, I have to look this up:D

is this the one James Toseland is going to drive?

MAD MAD MAD - but worth while? who knows? If you like pushing the boundaries of engineering and breaking a record on the way its the only way......Interesting stuff, not sure I would like to drive it at 1000 mph.....is that the goal? One thing is true Andy Green - RAF pilot has huge Gonads to drive what is a very viable explosive device.

Name on the fin for a tenner............

That's interesting, they originally said it was going to be a 2010 specification Cosworth F1 engine, I guess the Jaguar engine will be a bit more reliable and easier to service on a salt flat!

I'm watching this with great interest.

I had a little bet with myself that WC A Green was going to end up in a box with the last car, but I was proved wrong, hopefully I'll be wrong again, but 1000 mph !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, I want to know how they are going to keep the wheels in contact with the salt!!

I only found the story in a marque magazine and haven't looked any deeper into it all yet.

Yup, mahooooooosive nadgers and apparently very modest and down to earth to boot.

I'm bloody certain I wouldn't want to drive the thing at even a quarter of its projected maximum, these days, the general flow of traffic is pretty much my limit!
