This is doing my head in, I've been going round and round and now meeting myself coming backwards so would welcome some advice on what others do.

Going through shots of my son's football team in advance of putting together an end of season disc for the boys. Using Lightroom, I realised that I've been inconsistent re WB when shooting. Some matches I've shot in AWB, others I've locked in on Daylight setting. This means there's a subtle difference between matches [and some images none too subtle].

Generally the AWB shots gives a more pleasing green grass which is cooler with less red. However, the trade off is that skin tones look cold. Daylight WB in contrast gives reddish looking grass but v natural skin colour.

What do others do generally re WB setting? Stick with in camera AWB or set for the appropriate ambient light source?

Cheers,
Ben

I'm thinking there will inevitably differences - weather conditions, direction of light, time of year, time of day etc. It is surely more important to get natural looking skin tones wherever possible? I just use AWB for the majority.

As Carol says above, there will be differences due to different times and conditions.

I generally use AWB, the only real exception is when shooting for my local non-league club at night where the floodlights are awful and really play up the cameras. For this I have a custom setting that works for the most part.

AWB for me as well.... Don't think there is a perfect setting unfortunately.

AWB for outdoors games for me, don't think I've ever gone custom for an outdoor game - floodlights I've encountered have always been OK
