According to this chap it's easier now than ever to get in to sports photography.

Do you have any advice for those keen on pursuing a career in sports photography?
I actually think it’s probably easier now than when I started because when I did it you’d have to market yourself and it all cost money. Whereas now, you can go on the web and you can market yourself through social media and you can make your website for nothing, so that’s all free. There were things that I didn’t know that seemed like a dark secret, and now you can just go on YouTube and find the answer, so I’d say it’s probably a really good time for that too.

I’d say to start doing what I did, which is to just go to your local park and practice shooting there. It’s not difficult really to get access to those things and then worm your way into the other places by hook or by crook.

Even inspiration-wise you can look at so many great images on Flickr and on 500px. If you don’t get inspired by that, you need help! There’s just so much out there.

To be fair the type of sports photography he covers isnt covered in enclosed stadiums nor are images subject to players image rights etc, etc.

Finally here!! so i took some shots thismorning playing around with camera and working out what all the buttons do and reading the manual, hopefully im gonna get down the park tomorrow and capture some saturday football and start on the road to success!

So here is some pics i took thismorning, no real editing just playing around with settings on camera thought some of them looked quite cool of my little kitty dexter :D

With Flickr, what you need to do is grab the BB Code so that it pastes correctly into here

Also, might be better if you start a new thread for them in the Photo sharing bit in Feedback and Critique

Has anyone evr used the Sigma 100-300 f4 - one advertised in the classifieds - if i put it with my D3 / d7000 I will have good low light capacity - is the quality any good?

Its a superb lens, one of the very best Sigma has ever made, however as with all Sigmas there are good and bad copies, my advice is try before you buy but if its a good one then you will be very happy.

train your eyes to see things first

the kit you use does not really matter
Ah right, so when im forced to shoot ISO 8000 at Featherstone Rovers and only acheive a 1/500th ss with my D3S, i could have got those same/similar shots with my old Canon 10d which only went up to 1600 ISO or are you saying i should look for a "different" type of shot

In some respect youre right, this last few weeks ive had my D3S and 400mm in for service/repair and had no option but to shoot with only my gripped D700, Nikon 70-200mm and 1.4x attached and a couple of wide angles and have still done every job under challenging conditions and still been published on front covers etc, etc. 16 this last weekend alone.

I would say look at a used 1dMkIIn or MkIII and I would go the prime route. I would learn how to work on a single focal length.

Joe, when i was a Canon shooter i thought the MKIIN was a real beauty of a camera and still is today, i think we all tend to forget that 10/20/30 years ago good photographers were getting great images with much less capable equipment than we use today.

I remember my first tinkering into digital SLR ownership, a Canon 10d and a Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8, whole lot cost me £1200 brand new from Walters Photo Video, i still look back at some of those 6mp images and some of them are superb, the only limitations were my skills as a photographer and not the equipment, i sold many A4/A3 and 15x10 inch prints from that kit

Fixation have a few used low mileage MKIIN's for under £500

I would say look at a used 1dMkIIn or MkIII and I would go the prime route. I would learn how to work on a single focal length.
