Fomadon R09 shelf-life once opened?

Hi,

Does anyone have firsthand experience of how long R09 developer lasts once you've opened the bottle? And will the "top up the bottle with marbles" trick help extend it?

Mine has lasted 5 or 6 years so far. I do not worry about the air space in the bottle aty all.

Never used any of them, but seem to remember reports of some of the Rodinal variants having a rather sudden switch from OK to dead. Not sure which ones

I recall the same stories - there have been many Rodinal equivalents since Agfa left us. "Equivalent" in the same sense as "equivalent" when followed by "focal length" i.e. the same in one respect and different in everything else. In this case, same grain and acutance. Shelf life is another matter. I just found a "will last at least 6 months" for R09, but no idea if it's conservative.
