Hello Everyone,

I tried to do a 365 in 2009 but it never seemed to happen and I gave up mid way though January. In 2010 I've decided to have a go at a less demanding 52. Throught the year, I will try and comment on others 52's and I would be thankful if people do the same to mine :D

First image up later!
Thanks :D!
Daniel

I must also add, i'm not following any themes are anything like that - i'm just gonna post a photos of my week and what happened :D

Image One, Not a full week of 2010 but I thought I'd post an image anyway :)
Week 53 of 52!

Family at New Year!
4237638444_457ccf3d5a_o.jpg

This photo seems to sum up my New Year. Thought I'd go for something different from having all the family posing.
Here you can see my Granda on 'his' seat then my dad and brother sharing a seat and my granny and cousin though
playing on the kitchen table, a typical New Year for me! :D

High ISO by the way!

nice atmospheric image Dan, Like it!

Thanks for taking the time to comment Charlie, got to find something to do over the next week to shoot now :D

Nice candid. Not sure about the white balance though.

Agreed Dean, it's a bit off but this way I feel that it gives out more a warm feel - something reflected on the occassion of having a family new year :)
Thanks for taking the time to comment.

Thanks for the comment Briony :D
That was one of the things I tried to incoporate into it.

Been busy this week trying to imagine a shot for Week One. Will get on up on Sunday :)
Throughout the year I hope that this can help me with the pre shoot process of finding locations and thinking through the image - something that I do actually find really hard.

Any more comments are welcome,
Thanks Daniel

Week One of Fifty Two

Too Much Snow!

This week has been quite a lazy week for myself, I was meant to be back at school on Thursday but the called it off due to the snow. Same with Friday so this week i've mostly been around the house and trying to revise - easier said than done! This weeks also been a nightmare for me on my paper round, everyone morning at about 6 I get up and do my papers and what a nightmare I've had this week with the snow! The bike seems to constanlty get stuck in the deep snow. Saying that it is better than walking! We even had the temp as low as -7 in Elgin yesterday morning! Chilly Stuff!

All C&C welcome,
Daniel

Dan, a couple of good shots there. The first is an interesting moment in time on the family watching TV. The snow looks a little blown in places, I think I'd be tempted to crop a little off the bottom to remove the worst of it. Some interesting textures in the wall, and the colour of that bare bush really stands out. Might be worth posting in the title, the date you put up the new images.

Thanks for the comment John :)

Here's Week Two's :)
4282848424_4e76cb40ba_o.jpg

Well last Monday was my first day back at school and what a day it was. It seemed to last FOREVER! On my way home I decided to buy a new phone. I've been needing one for a while so I just decided to buy one :) I bought a Samsung Genio Qwerty and I love it! Far better than my old phone which was coming onto for four years old :o)
I decided to get the keypad one instead of the touch screen - personal preference :)
I also got paid for my part time photography job - £40 which is not bad considering the sheer amount of games I've been given that have been called off. This weekend was no exeption :( Hoping the snow shifts before next weekend though!

It looks like a lovely phone Dan... only I can't tell... Sorry, not for me.. the DOF is on the box, and I want to see the phone itself.... it looks like it ought to be in focus. I keep looking at it ion the hope it'll slide into focus...

Thanks again for commenting John :)
I was debating whever or not to have the phone in focus or the name - I may reshoot this week this time with the phone in focus :)

Week Three of 52 **Football, FINALLY**
4304451600_91a3233063_o.jpg

At last the frost has disappeared from Elgin! After seven weeks of the snow and frost first coming we have finally got rid of it and have some football. Had a very busy weekend after covering my school team playing in the morning, then to the New Elgin game (above) and then onto the main Elgin City game too.
During the week had a very hetic week at school with revision being top of the cards with my prelims starting today (Monday) More info on that next week :)!

Score from the football were,
Elgin Academy 6 Gordonstoun 1
New Elgin 2 Deveronside 2 (at half time)
Elgin City 1 Berwick 5

Thats it for this week!

All C&C Welcome....

For those interested - the above shot was printed in todays Banffshire Journal :)

Week Four of 52 **Late nights and a lot of exam stress!**

4319411839_f0df13c32b_o.jpg

Finally the end to such a stressful week. I've had my prelim exams at school this week and have been giving study leave for them. In total we have three weeks to sit out five prelims and four of my five have been in the past week!
English on Monday, Maths Tuesday, History Wedensday and Art Friday!
I was really glad of my rest on Thursday as the stress and pressure was all starting to get the better of me. Only got one more left and thats not till Friday so have pretty much a free week.
Also this week with the local car club we had a talk from Pat Smith - a women who competeted on the 1967 World Cup Marathon. Personally I thought it would be quite a boring take but it turns out I really enjoyed it and loved the challenge that she faced! Would love to do a simalar endurance style event - not as long though!

Thanks Daniel

Daniel, good shot of the football, intent concentration on the ball. Well done for getting it published too..

Oh boy, I remember those nights... It's a good shot and I like the lighting on it. Something doesn't quite work for me, and it's the dark upper left, I'm not sure what the best to do about it is though... it may work better if you can somehow restrict the light from there even more... sorry, that's not a lot of help really.

Nice idea on a 52. I do enjoy reading the more "diary-like" snippets of peoples lives through photos.

In some ways it makes me glad I'm old now (no early morning paper round starts in the snow or stress over exams) and in other ways I wish I was 17 again (no aching bones, ability to drink more than three pints without feeling crap the next day)

Well done on getting a shot published. It's a good capture that's for sure.

I also like the last shot "studying" and the first family shot.

Nice set so far. Looking forward to looking at the rest of the photos.

Ian.

Was really happy at getting it published in both the Banffshire Journal and the Northern Scot also :)
Understand what you mean in regards to the top left, thanks :)

Thank you very much for taking the time to comment - I will have a look at yours and comment in return :)

Well done on getting the football shot published.

I agree with Harlequin 565. There is added interest and context in a more personal journal-type set like yours rather than presenting different unconnected images each week as I am doing.

I think the shot of you studying, with your books sprawled everywhere is my favourite. Though the dark top left detracts from the overall effect for me.

Good luck with the exams:)

Week Five of 52 **JAMES MORRISON - 63 CAR CLUB CHAMPION 2009**

4338829634_9540e6f6df_o.jpg

Like every other image I will do a report here but currently I am so knackered I can't really be bothered! I'll get it done tomorrow and post it up :)

Thanks Daniel

Well the week,

Since I last updated it I've had a pretty relaxed week; unlike last week!
Monday started off with myself and good friend Darren heading though to Inverness for a bit of shopping as we both had the day free of exams. Managed to buy a few things including a shirt for the Dinner and Dance - more of that later. Tuesday, Wedensday and Thursday were all pretty relaxed and conisisted of me staying in my bed until 11ish before heading into school in the afternoon for some revsion and my lunch.
Friday I had my last prelim - woo hoo! Graphic Communication, I felt that I wasn't going to do well in it but luckly everything went pretty well and hopefully i'll come out with a pass and I can improve before the proper exams in May. Friday night I ended up at a apart in Dufftown, early night though as I had two football games to attend the next day. Saturday saw me head down to Burghead for a game that the Northern Scot sent me to then I went to Elgin Citys game - which we actually won! First home win of the season and there was such an atmosphere at the end! 3-1 we won :)
That night I attended the 63 Car Club Dinner and Dance as both a guest and photographer - such a fantastic night! Got home at two in the morning, straight to bed and was up at 11 for the Euro 2012 draw and to meet Sarah , now girlfriend, uptown at 12 - had a super afternoon with her which resulted in us dating.

Thanks Daniel

I'm no good at people shots Dan, something I need to work on, but the flash hasn't helped here, it's lit him, but caused a hard shadow over his right shoulder. The window and wall behind his right shoulder is also a bit of a distraction (there may not have been much you could have done about that), but perhaps moving to your left might have got the sign across the background, I'm thinking it's linked to the cup in someway. Sorry that sounds negative... just a couple of things I saw.

Hi Dan,

I can't believe that I haven't come across this thread before - No idea how I've managed to miss it week after week :shake:

I hope that the exams went well . . . so glad that those days are behind me now!!!
Although it makes for a good photo. I think the SP of the studying is the strongest of the set so far. It really tells a story.
The phone shot is very close to being there too - if the focal point was just on the phone and not the box it would have been great, as it is it's still OK.

Your football and 63 club champion don't mean much to me I'm afraid - not because of the shots, but because neither are my type of thing, so it makes it hard for me to offer C&C. I can appreciate the skill involved in being able to freeze the action of the football match though and I think John is spot on with his comments on the cup shot.

Keep it up Dan, I'm looking forward to next week - and I'll try not to lose this thread again.

Hi Dan,

Also +1 to what John said about the flash. One tip I've heard (though not tried yet) is to put masking tape over the flash to diffuse it a bit. Maybe that might help?

Congratulations!!

No problem, totally agree with you there regards to the shadow and the window - thought the same when I processed the shot too. The banner behind are the Car Clubs Main Sponsor hence why its been used :)

Thank you for taking the time to comment Sarah. Agreed that the studing shot is probably the best of the set so far.
Many thanks.

Thanks for the advice Ian, might try a few practise shots sometime this week.
And Thank you for your kind words about my relationship :)

I do have this weeks image on my computer but am so tired all this Valentines day and that! haha

I'll upload tomorrow :)

Week Six of 52 ** Colin, Sarah and Football!**
4359202098_4aa115c191_o.jpg

Again this week was pretty relaxed for me spending most of the week with Sarah.
On Monday although I was off school she wasn't so I met her at night, I met her parents too that night and they seem really nice which is good :D Then she came though to see me on Tuesday night and we went to a nice place in Elgin called Scribbles for drinks which passed the night well.
Wednesday I had my art exam - the practical side of it - it never went great nor did it go bad and it doesn't really mean much as our practical gets graded throughout the whole year. Wednesday afternoon/night I and good friend Frazer Gilbert headed down to East Stirling, Falkirk to watch Elgin City play. We weren't expecting a win and we never got a win but it was fine to get out of Elgin for the night and gave us something to do. The Bus left Elgin at 2pm and never got home till 2.30am: Happy Days! And we got beat 2-0! Thursday I was in my bed all day before sitting on the couch with my duvet, I enjoyed it. Alot. Friday I spent the day at Sarah’s house, and then she came through on Saturday and again Sunday :) Saturday we went uptown for a bit, saw Colin and Justin then went to the football and on Sunday as it was Valentines day we went to Starbuck, Then Shopped around Elgin for a bit before heading to the football - which she’s really into :D She’s a big Aberdeen fan! We then went to a restaurant for tea and watched the film Day Breakers at the cinema. It’s shocking. Would not recommend to anyone IMHO.

See you next week! :D

Pretty girl.

For me the tryptich (however you spell it) doesn't work. The centre photo seems to be most "on theme" but it doesn't look like it was taken with the D40x :). It's a nice relaxed pose though, and breathes happiness. Maybe have another go with a tripod?

Keep it up!

Ian.

The story of the week in a triptych. I have to agree with Ian, I'm not sure the triptych works for the shots, the centre is too prominent and makes the other two seem almost afterthoughts. The centre shot works nicely though and it looks like you're enjoying yourselves and relaxing which is good.

Week Seven, Snowman Rally
4381910473_d4350e495b_o.jpg

Another boring week at school although I did have the Snowman Rally at the weekend. Had an AWESOME weekend :)

Sure looks like it too... The contact with the driver and navigator works well, you must have been mad to stand that close to the edge  though.
