Hi all

I was sure this had been discussed before but could not readily find the thread(s) I thought read a while back???

I am looking for a folding hide i.e. not a bag hide that I can leave setup in the garden (at this stage) that will take a chair and a tripod in it.

So would welcome pointers to what others have bought and used....................or any pointers to specific UK sources. Ideally would be good to be <£100, perhaps £60 - £80???

Is the above product at that price point possible and if so where from, if not what would you recommend? :)

TIA

As above (y)

I've got something similar to this link, only not as tall, cost about £25 from either Aldi/Lidl quite a few years ago, but there's loads on ebay.

Being cheap and not having a lot to loose, I cut a hole on all four sides for viewing and sticking the lens through. To stop the nylon fraying I went around the hole with gaffer tap, worked a treat and still going strong.

Seconds to put up and easily moved.

Phil I thought I was aware of pretty much what is available camo tenty hidey thang wise ,but it seems not cool link mate thankyou plus cool tip on the windows...cheers bro!!!!!

BB,i've not used any of these yet but done a bit of digging, have a look at the simon king hide, bit pricey but that seems the only with built in low view windows, that I can recall always cool when a photographer is involved in a design huh??

We've looked at one made by decathlon too bit a bit cheeper than the above I think simon's is £149 decath around £80. Mate your blummin name's gone again my apologies!! We pondered how how one of these tents might be in the summer the decathlon has a removable or part in place roof,ie there are options. on days of excessive heat Viewing not so good ,but phil's tip above should sort cuts for windows ...where we want them.. There are also the superhides made in asia amongst others. sorry no links bro ,but they should be easily found.

I'd spend a bit of time digging around ebay even twitter plus look at pigeon shooting hides ,there are a good few crossovers between shooting(even fishing) and wildlife image making, clothing hides boots all manner of products really useful for us oft cheeper than togging alternatives

hope this is some use kiddo wish I could remember your name ....embarasing !!

Hi Stu @Stuart Philpott

Yup, found the Simon King hide ~ called Stealth but now no longer widely available....bit odd really for such a notable design without screening ~ did make me think of a shooting/hunting hide because of the gaping front ???

Did not know or think of Decathlon....add to search list. Basically, SWMBO wanted a santa list and I thought a hide might be a good idea but do not want to make it difficult for her to source & buy, so eBay not good :(

PS the names Bond, James Bond.....ooops sorry wrong film.

....Laurence ;)

This is the one I've got, it's fantastic : https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/Camo-Pop-u...hy-Tent-Waterproof/898515582?iid=192192614631

I use a bag hide too, when I want to minimize my gear.

But for when I'm in it for long periods or want something waterproof, the one I linked is great (y)

That does look like the Stealth Simon King recommended one.

Edit ~ found their main website i.e. not the eBay one so 'more content' a webshop for her to use if that is the one to pick??? NB having said that it is not an HTTPS site !

I bought it from ebay with no hiccups at all.

Or are you saying she doesn't like using ebay in general?

Neither of us use eBay much at all. AFAIK she has never used the bay and I think I have bought via that route twice in the many years! If I can find a direct route with clearer bona fides that is my prefered route though I have had headaches with Amazon merchants :(

For a bigger hide, I'd suggest one of the ones in the style of the Ameristep Doghouse blind, whereas I'd avoid any that are a copy of the Ameristep Brickhouse (I have one and the windows are too high due to the nature of the metal frame)

Stu mentioned decathlon and I found this one here https://www.decathlon.co.uk/hunting-hide-tent-kamo-br-id_8186072.html looks pretty good to me though unlike some I have read about it is not black lined to reduce silhouette 'effect'.

Laurence of Arabia might help ,half of me is thinking I might remember now, half of me thinking probably not battered I am.DOH:D !! Sorry mate!! The big house builders smash lots through now to make the books look good for the shareholders ,we that make 'em are running round like headless chucks tis not good !!!!!.

Buddy that's the one that seemed to fit the bill for me/us,although i've not seen it in the flesh as it were. My hare spot has little owls Laurence, was musing it for them,I know where they nest . The windows aren't necessarily the best but I felt the doors might present a workaround for lower options.

Site hide in the shade that would be another work around if said beastie targets can see one in said hide above. better for you too!! Personallly unless ones movements are very abrupt I feel it wouldn't be too much of a problem,re silhouette..As long as due care and time are given in placement one is only fooling them into thinking there isn't something dangerous there. if it were an issue a bit of dark cloth behind image maker and a couple of pegs should sort that issue

Laurence it seemed the best bang for the buck for me with it's features. In the summer I can image some of these tents being pretty uncomfortable heat wise.

Thing is mate, hide or no, being comfy is of massive importance,if one is uncomfortable one fidgets,it's inevitable........ right chairs right height a huge asset.

Mate almost utterly off topic, but relevent given your later replies, have a look at these. I'm going to try and give you a link, might make a good pressie.

The business is local to me called Winfields, out door campy type shop, great cloths, your good lady could ring and chat mate. We have bought from them for years any problems they have hundred percent sorted. maybe size didn't fit on something ordered, but they are lovely mate.. You or your good lady would be good there.here's their site mate. The chairs we use are kampa high back low chairs I think. If one struggles to get up from the floor this one is not for you but the sage version is one hell of an asset

link should contain said item ha h £20 mate why not;) ????? https://www.winfieldsoutdoors.co.uk/kampa-sandy-high-back-low-chair/

We use these chairs buddy they are so cool, little bag up down in mins sling over should hit spot in camo chill wait. I sort of use them as a mobile base. I can stalk from that point if needed , My lady whom has a few probs with arthritis can be right there watching, but comfy. I can come back after messing up:Dand rest, they are a bloody godsend bro:).

Mate essentially as well as the chrimbo aspect,i'm bunging something a bit left field at ya,why carry a hide when a tiny chair and some camo clothing can make a damn sight more portable alternative??. If one isn't using any bait or breeding sites, then one hell of alot of time and craft goes in to placing a successful hide,I get it wrong all the time, especially when pressured like now. I just move to the right place for the day and wait there if the mood takes or subject demands.then I can get closer again if needed If one was weilding a big tele I reckon a biggish tripod could be set across one sitting at face height it would be maybe a couple of feet off the floor. It's not right down bit more reach has a marked impression on pov

There ya go mate:D cracking little tool properly useful, twenty notes. I have no connection to Winfields they are simply a local ish place where I buy great products cheep and get wonderful service ,fair play to them it's nice to share some awesome service

Also and essentlially this little chair is why I haven't yet bought a hide I still might for the lo's. if I can get some time we'll see,but this simple little tool pretty much took that need away for us and made things easier on the old bones............ no doubt !!

ha ha merry chrimbo mate tis a bit early but
why not:)

@Stuart Philpott

Hi Stuart

Thanks for the reply & insights.....nowhere near a Winfield's site but I have found a Kampa supplier about 5 miles away, so can look and try such options.

Given me food for thought or a headache ;)

PS my manfrotto tripod is not one that goes low enough to 'arrange' as you describe......but maybe would work with the Kampa Tub Chair rather than the high back low chair???

I'd take said tripod to said chair shop mate, try before you buy . May as well get the best tool for you and know it works before purchase with your other items like the tripod. We are all so different in how we do this, it's tailoring the tools to the individual and his or her needs that is most important .I would think it's down to how far one has to splay the tripod legs and whether the angles would be enough to get over the chair rather than the low position of ones face. Mind that low position is exactly why I wanted them,I guess one's rear is a couple of inches of the floor, for me and beasties I wouldn't want to be much higher ,for birds on feeders etc the tub would be fine, but I'd not want to be that high for hares etc. It's al down to what you do Laurence

Ha ha just a thought bro sorry to complicate things,:Dit really struck me just how much easier these little chairs made our lives ,plus how closely related to the hide purchase or not, they were for meThey would be even better in something like carbon fiber, but then the cost would spiral I suppose

Anyway mate all the luck:)
