I seem to be having a hard time focus stacking mostly when I am using ext tubes. Is this because I am not using my software correctly or are the tubes changing the focal length as I focus? Really annoying as any methods I use seem to come out really mismatched. :bang:

In what way?

Are you changing the tubes between photos? That will change the focal length...

Hmmm - have you got a macro focussing rail? That's how I tried focus stacking - tubes / not tubes shouldn't matter at all!

Don't have a rail but haven't been changing tubes or anything. I seem to start shooting with the focus on the far end of the object and by the time I get to the near side (example:coin) It's filling more of the frame. So when I stack they are not sharp and misaligned.

Are you focusing by moving the camera or with the focus ring?

It sounds like you are experiencing focus breathing which happens if you focus with the focus ring.

Thanks Mike that's exactly what I have been doing... I guess a rail is needed. Pretty annoyed I couldn't solve this myself.
