Don't care, I go to have a good day out, bag a bargain in paper etc and enjoy, I just wish they would remember there are other parts of the country other than the Noorth, for exhibitions.

Surely Birmingham isn't considered North, it's certainly closer to Southampton than Carlisle for example. It will be an 8 hour drive south for me to get there, but then again I do consider Edinburgh to be in the south :D

JSER's location is shown as Devon so I guess practically anywhere other than Cornwall is north for him.

Reckon I'll pop along for this, would be good to see what electronic magic and jiggery-pokery is going to be top for complaints on forums next year. ;)
 
I have lived in Pontefract, Inverness, Camberley, Launceston and Tavistock.

Ok FURTHER UP North than Devon, the West Midlands, why not Leeds, London, Bristol, why always in the same place.

Down here many consider anything past Bristol the North.

Well, it is located at the National Exhibition Centre.... it's a pretty convenient place for hosting large scale exhibitions.
 
My road atlas (2011 southerners edition) is blank after birmingham. It just says "Here be dragons" :D
 
If its north of the Thames its north ;)

I've been to exhibitions in Manchester Central (GMEX), Reebok Stadium, Rikoh Arena, some race course in Newcastle, National Indoor Arena, NEC, Olympia and Earls Court.

NEC is the best out of all of these, for access from the majority of the country (by car, plane or train), hotels, parking and facilities.

There is also the Excel in London, but transport links to this seem to suck, but I will find out as we are there in Jan 2013 for the first time with work.

Decided I'm not going next year, every time I go I spend too much money.

This year I came home with a Canon refurb 1d3, and absolute minty copy but my pocket felt so light and my wallet cried all the way home :D
 
Not registered yet, but I've been to the last two. I'll probably go again this year as there are some interesting product stands and talks. Loved Andy Rouse's last year.

...but if you get there early there's so many photo opportunities along the Thames or in London

We have a map of the UK up on the wall at work (inherited from the previous tennants) that shows the M40 just ending somewhere south of Oxford and there are a few other roads on there that ain't nothing like they are these days. :)

The NEC is good for me, as it's only 20 minutes away but that aside, it's the most central location and reminds folk from London that they're not the only place where things can happen ;)

Which isn't Watford is it? No wonder we get confused

I'm looking forward to this event - my inlaws are 'sourtherners' (ok, so it's about 45 minutes south of Brum) so I don't even have to lug my kids along :D
 
As its in the 'Midlands' I'm guessing its the most convenient place for most the country?

If it was in Cornwall say, I'm sure people from Manchester etc wouldn't bother going...same as if it was further up north I'm sure many more from down south wouldn't go?
 
Bit disappointed last year, a lot of stands just wern't there, having been for the past 4/5 years I don't think I will be going again until this recession is over. For example in the past there were several stands selling Peli cases, last year it was a struggle to find one, and thats just one example. Also there was very little price difference between show offers and shop prices, which has been something one would expect to get at a trade show. There were in the past also several stands with models to demo lighting etc, last year I think there was only about two that I recall.

Having said that yes first time definately, but not worth a return visits if been before.

Can anyone recommend anything to see and do whilst there?
Should I take a camera? I see lots of photos of photographers taking photos at the show, but I don't know what there is to take photos of.
What should I see and do while at the show?
I'm there for 2 days and 3 nights.
Any good places to get food/drinks??

You should have a look at [thread=377561]this[/thread]. There's a load of TPers from all over the country meeting up there on the Sunday. They should (hopefully!) be able to help out with show and food/restaurant questions. :thumbs:

Top Shop on Oxford street at xmas sales time has nothing on Focus and figure in all the saddos who turn up with gripped bodies and 400mm lenses, it gets a tad crowded :lol:

I took my camera and one lens last year because A) I wanted to have the lens checked by Sigma, and B) wanted to get the sensor cleaned if there was a service.

There are usually some stands with half-naked birds on them but you'll have to get past all the pervs and TBH, the lighting is usually pap. It's a good show for people watching though and if the massage stand is there (you pay what you think the massage is worth) then you can at least have a few minutes of relaxation with an attractive lady rubbing you up and down ;)

As for food, there are the NEC restaurants plus there was a Subway and some cafe-type stalls.

I'm not attending as I've not grown a beard lol
 
I was kindly invited to attend by a relative and friends (who are wedding photographers). They are great company and I went along with them last year but after some consideration I reluctantly declined this year - it's very busy and there are so many wedding related exhibitors in the place (more than any other kind of exhibitor it seemed) it almost drove me barmy by the end of the day.
