Hi

I want to try and learn to focus, compose and shoot but do not know what I can use as a subject to see the sharpness and make sure I am getting the focus correct.

Kids will not sit in one place so they are out of the questions.

At present I move the focus point when taking photos.

Make up a focus rig, basically an A4 sheet of black & white patterns with different sizes of font etc, it will allow you to see how sharp the lens is and so you can compensate for such. Then move onto still objects with colour - fruit, coloured pencils etc, anything with a sharp line will help you to determine how well you're doing :)

Thanks. Will see if I can print of a grid first to use, colour pencils is also a good option. Kids have loads.
