Not long ago, I started using Picasa for photo hosting since I already had a Google account. But I found it rather 'clunky' to use. I noticed most people on here used Flickr, so I set up an account yesterday and..... what a difference. I found it so easy to use compared to Picasa.

Anyone got any comments on the differences and how to get the best out of them?

I'd agree with your findings. I did the same and started with picasa, but now use Flickr. My change was brought about by wanting to get the free Flickr Pro account that I can get with my BT broadband, and now I've used Flickr I'm sold. The Flickr organiser and the way you can drag&drop is a pleasure to use.

I quite like Flickr although I wish the pic samples were a bit larger.

Try out 500px. It has a magnificent user interface and shows your photos in their true glory. I use 500px for business use; it just looks so professional.

I've been tempted to move to 500px but as everyone is on flickr it would mean posting images twice?

Hi Tim, I have just switched over to a BT broadband package, but cannot find any information on how to set up a free Flickr pro account (I am nearing the 200 limit on my existing account). Could you please point me in the right direction.
Cheers,
Andy

hi.

Does your bt email address work via yahoo? if so you can log into Flickr using you bt/yahoo details and you automatically get the pro account. If you want to maintain your current Flickr account you can go into the settings and change the email address it's associated to to your bt/yahoo one and that will update it to pro automatically.

Just got the following message up on my Flickr screen after trying to link my Flickr account to my BT email address:

Yahoo! broadband partner users are not authorised to transfer their Flickr account to another Yahoo! ID

My previous linked email address was an AOL one, so I do not really understand this message.

Very strange, it is now saying that I have updated to a pro account free as long as I stay with BT.
Anyway, thanks for your help Tim, I seem to be there now.

Glad it worked ok, I'm in the process of uploading all my photos to Flickr as another backup. Just got the last couple of months to do (although it takes ages to upload on my connection).

That sounds like a good scheme Tim, a bit of extra insurance. Do you use the quick uploader and do six at a time, and are you uploading downsized JPEGs or full size TIFF files?
