I have used Flickr for ages but recently had trouble uploading to it. Basically the images start to upload but stop below 33%, the computer freezes and the only solution is to restart (happens the same whether i'm using the site to upload or the Flickr uploader on the desktop). This also happens when i try to upload to Redbubble, Deviant Art, photobox, DS Colour Labs but not my own site where everything is fine.

Things i have tried:

Clearing cookies / history.
Using various browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Explorer) All give the same issue.
Different computer - uploads fine.

Contacted my ISP (BT) - very unhelpful when i asked about bandwidth restrictions and traffic shaping. I was wondering if i was trying to upload a lot of data during these times that it might be the cause of the problem. Since then i have tried in the middle of the night and the same issue.

Any ideas guys, it's getting a bit annoying using the 1991 laptop now :)

Have you tried changing the location on the hard drive of the files you are uploading to flickr? I assume you can open all the pictures fine in some sort of software?

Yes i use Adobe Bridge for file sorting and viewing but on upload they are just coming off whatever drive they are stored on. I've tried numerous drives but to no avail, it's a bit of a weird problem.

Before you do something as drastic as formatting the computer, try this program:

Flickr Uploadr
Untitled-2.jpg

I use it for all my uploading and it works like a charm.

As stated in the original post, i have tried both using the site and the uploader but both give the same results. I'm trying to avoid formatting the computer but its looking increasingly likely that i'll have to do it. Thanks for the replies guys.

Have you tried reinstalling your usual browser and re-installing all the plugins? The plugins used for the uploading might have become corrupt or incompatible versions might have been installed. Before you try get the error console up and do an upload with it visible. It should then show you what were the last messages when it starts hanging. If you use ghostery or other web bug blocking software that can cause a few problems with some interactive sites as it can block cookies being written that are needed.

I'd be looking at sorting the drivers for whatever it is that your pc uses to connect to the net.

Network card drivers (possibly integrated into your motherboard chipset)
or if its a usb modem, drivers for that
or wifi chipset drivers.

Failing that i'd look at the bit of windows having issues and at that stage a re-install is probably easier.
