Hi. Does anyone with a tech background understand the whole "favourite" thing on Flickr? I just think it's really odd that moments after posting a photo to my flickr that someone has marked it as a favourite. How do they do that? Have they got some sort of automated script on their browser that scrolls through flickr?

Probably someone is following you ,do you add your pics to any groups etc ,have you added any friends ,it’s also world wide so as soon as you post a pic it’s potentially seen by millions of people .

I too have the same thing happening to me, I am guessing that there is an automated script involved as I have received favourite with out any views of the picture.

Hover over 'You' on your FLICKR page and go down to 'People'. That shows the most recent images posted by people you are following (I have mine set to show five per person).

It's my first port of call when I go on there and it changes all the time. Others also do the same so will see all the latest images straight away and fave them - if they like them.

Yes. Some folk do have automated scripts to favourite pics. I don't understand it at all. I was spotted by one member who started following me. He pointed me to his site and an "instruction" as to how to create favourites from the people you follow.

Really it's an ego trip. The idea us that you follow someone and favourite all their shots and they do the same for you. This gets both your personal stats up.

I didn't go along with his game and he soon stopped following me!

Flickr faves and views are all a bit of a game. Don't get too hung up on them.

Yep it’s a bit like #explore# on there I have around 300 but strangely none since I had a rant at there ceo

Tinfoil hat time. I'm sure the Flickr CEO has better things to do than making sure your images don't make explore.

Na it was when they changed the format totally a few years back ,I suppose a personal message telling her she was a c*** didn’t go down to well

Why would you do that, but I see you still use it, well done you

loads of friends and contacts threw in the towel at that time and left to join other sites ,it upset thousands of people and completely ruined a super system that worked well and really well for genuine photographers ,she just wanted i.phone users and was quiet happy to dump all the loyal customers that had built the site up

I remember it happening, it was just slightly different really, but it obviously still works, you are still there,

"genuine photographers" :ROFLMAO: what does that even mean

As opposed to kids with I.phones

I don't get the snobbery around what kind of lightbox someone uses to take photos.

What lightbox do you have to use to become a 'real' photographer ?!
