Hi guys....
I have bought myself a jessops 360afdc Flashgun for my Canon 7Dmk 11...i am new to flash photography and assumed once the flash was set on ETTL as well as in camera I would pop it on the hotshoe and away I go?
Obviously not... Its not firing on the hotshoe... But does when test button is pressed.... Much help needed please.. What am I doing wrong...

Is the camera above sync speed and the external flash enabled in the menu?
have you tried firing the flash simply with a paper clip?

Hi Phil.... This is all new to me I don't understand sync speed or anything about flash work.... I usually do my Wildlife photography and as I have been ill for some time couldn't get out... So decided on trying a little indoor work with flash.... Can you explain what this all means?

So Flash sync speed is the fastest speed at which the shutter completely opens, for your camera it's 1/250, but 1/160 is safer.

You need to look on the first page of your menu for flash control, then check that Flash firing is set to enable.

However, as @admirable posted, it's likely incompatible.

My immediate reaction on reading your post was 'it's a crap flash', but I thought I'd offer something more positive.

However all is not lost, you can use the flash in slave mode, but you'll have to play with masking the built in flash to make it all play nice together. Personally I'd look to return the flash as incompatible and buy something a bit better - a proper ETTL II Neewer or Yongnuo shouldn't cost too much.

∆ more like you :-)

I have just ordered a Canon Flash... Hopefully that will be better?

It depends which one, but yes, it should hopefully be compatible

I remember years ago going into jessops for a flash for my 40D and asked about the jessops own brand one the guy said that it’s not very good don’t get it
I really appreciated his honesty :):)

You do have to enable flash in the menu system. I'm sure you have but thought it was worth mentioning.

edit: apologies, can see this has already been mentioned.
