Hi all,

I am interested in getting a flashgun for my Nikon D3100 to help with portraits, low-light photography and to be a bit more creative.

I've been looking at the SB-400 which is on Amazon for £80-90 (which seems rather expensive to me) but also found this for 1/3 of the price:

The reviews for this speedlight seem good - does anyone have any experience with this light? Can anyone point out the difference between the SB-400 and the TT520 apart from the Nikon name attached to the SB-400?

Also, a very newbie question here: how does the flashlight sync to the camera's shutter by slotting into the hot shoe?

hi, lots of info on here.
I'm not familiar with nikon kit
but the camera fires the flash and it will sync upto the limits of your camera, normally up to 1/250th of a second

No idea, it's not a popular model around here, but it's a very basic manual power gun and not at all similar to an SB-400.

There are very few decent flash guns for under £100, but have a look at Yongnuo.
