Right... I've just sold my studio lights because I want/need something more versatile, that I can use out and about, plus indoors for portraits etc (should the need arise)

I've currently got one SB600 that I'd like to compliment with a couple more flashes...

Now the dilemma, do I get another SB600 and a SB800, or do I perhaps go for a couple of cheaper flashes, and partner them with some skyports or similar. Do these kind of devices have TTL, or is it all manual?

I'm a flash newbie... currently looking through the strobist site to try and learn more, but I'd really appreciate your input, what you use(d) etc.

TIA :D:thumbs:

With the D80 can you fire the SB-800 with it? I thought you could but I might be wrong. If you can, for the time I would just get another 800 and save a bit more/play around with lighting and then move onto some radio slaves.

Just an idea

Sounds like a nice plan. Plus only having one flash to fire off camera with slaves can be a little boring. I'd wait till later when you have more flashes and learnt a bit more about lighting. (not saying you need to ;) )

the skyports dont support ttl unfortunately. perhaps look for the old sb26/28 (i think it was them two) s
judging by what people say they are very good, but wont ttl i dont think. im sure people will correct me if im wrong

I have two SB-25's and one SB-26 are just as good as the SB-800 but as fletch5 said, they don't work with TTL. Seeing as your thinking about getting some Skyports that DONT use TTL it depends if you want to save money and get some older SB's without the TTL for now untill you get them? (If that makes sense??)

do they do sky ports with ttl? or am i misreading what your saying?

i was starting to think they were even more of a bargain then!! oh well, im still happy:)
