I have two, they have a cold hotshoe at the top, various screws on and a drilled hole for the umbrella.

Only thing is they are cheap as chips and built like a chip. I’ve had to drill the umbrella holes (very soft alloy) as they were too small and the screws aren’t up to keeping everything steady.

buy cheap, buy twice.

What should I have bought? Links appreciated.

Hi

I recently bought ones of these

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Godox-Speedlite-AD200Pro-Adjustment-Integrated/dp/B07YCDKGQJ

Not used it yet, but looks like better option then the cheap one I currently have.

I have two of the Umbrella Adapter with Hot Shoe holder, but believe the godox one is easier to use. Also the flash head sit in the fitting as opposed to the hot shot.

Will give it a go this week and report back which one I prefer.

I think I will check mine and see if they do work with an umbrella first and may just leave it there but from memory the access to the flash controls once it’s in the ‘grip’ can be limited.

Just checked my one and does have a slot for putting in the umbrella. Looking at a Youtube video the suggestion is to place the flash side ways so that you can adjust the flash setting if required.

How do you trigger the flash?

Either by using another flash (though I hate the extra weight) and I’ve got a handful of pocket wizards (plus x) and have just ordered a Nikon SU-800 so I can use high speed flash outside with larger apertures.

Have you looked at the godox trigger and controller? Like godox X pro?

Tried it the other day and very impressed with how easy it was to use, and how well the umbrella stayed in, even when I had it tilting downwards.

I use my godox s-brackets with my Westcott 180cm umbrella and diffuser and it just stays where I put it. Works with speedlight, AD200 and AD360.
I also have some of the other kind a pretty sturdy nonam and a manfrotto but they collect dust.

Just ordered a couple of those as my flash nearly went south on my cheap Chinese one!
Very impressed with the calumet ones they are a world away from the the el cheapo ones and I am a lot more confident using them!
