hello, my first post in a while and i have new kit :) iv just bought interfit int174 venus 2 head 150watt studio lights, now im very happy with the kit although it dosnt seem to be very bright, can any one give me tips on set up etc like should i use them in a dark room or in natural light? also id like to invest in flash triggers because i have a Canon EOS 400D and at the moment im triggering the lights by the flash sensor but i dont really want to spend too much because iv just spent alot on the lights lol so if anyone could help me please post, thanks.

cheapest way to get you going is a cable. Look up your camera manual to find out what you need for a sync cable. Then the next one would be a cheap IR trigger and then all sorts of radio jobbies.

You can use your lights in daylight no problem Zak, it's a bit different to the way you work out a normal exposure though. You need to me in manual and set your camera to your sync speed 1/125 (or below) and then you regulate the amount of light and the exposure by the lamp intensity and your aperture.

Which is why studio photographers will talk about a light being f8. That translates to 1/125 @ISO 100 and f8 The first two are fixed and the aperture is the one that gives you your exposure. Try getting to grips with one light and when you have the hang of that and can be creative with it, then think about adding a second.

Have you got a lightmeter?

cool thanks for the tips, no i havnt got a lightmetre, i tend to rely on my cameras light metre unfortunatly, i need to have a good play and get used to my exposures with the lights

The cheapest way is as Alib said use a pc sync adaptor in your flash hotshoe then a pc sync cable to your flash.. Watch you dont trip..

I bought one of these Flash trigger setup on first flash, with the second light set to slave to flash when the first does.

:)

they look useful and not to expensive =) thanks for the suggestion

it is like that, the problem i have is i have no where on my camera to plug the other end in lmao

If you buy the trigger i suggested above it fits in your Flash hotshoe..

I dont think the sync cord will work with your lights, i will look around...

Ok, it's a lot easier with a lightmeter but try this to get you going.

ISO100, 1/125 f8 and your light turned up to about 1/3 power and about 6ft away.

Then you can turn the power up and down and see what that does. Then with the power left constant change the aperture and see what happens.

Not a bad way to learn is to just start out simple and change one parameter at a time noting what it does to the exposure. :)
