Sup guys,

Never used anything apart from the onboard camera, but would love to venture into using a dedicated flash and wireless triggers for portraits!

I think it's fair to say: Where the flip do I start?!

I've been looking at these triggers to start with; cheap and cheerful, but will they be alright for starting out?

Also, regarding the actual flash... I really have no idea what the difference between all the of the Canon EX range is, and whether I actually should get a Canon flash or go for a cheaper one?

Any information/link/tutorials welcomed!

Thanks :D

For portraits, just get a flash gun, a stand, umbrella, a reflector and a trigger set. Cheap and easy, and very capable of great results.

Lighting is much more about a bit of photographic skill than it is about fancy gear, but I would urge you to get a decent gun with full E-TTL control. You won't need it for studio work but for just about everything else it is a fantastic advantage.

You can build from there any which way you like

I would start with a canon 430 that way to can learn e-ttl and manual.

They both have their uses and it is worth learning both methods of working.
