Hi, my 14 year old nephew rang in tears he is currently doing a school project using his camera and through the camera takes photos without flash when he wants and needs flash it won't work.. The button for flash works but flash won't take photos. I'm a Nikon user and never used my flash. I've taken care of this boy who's father has disowned him sad but true. Anybody got ideas? I've leant him my Nikon 7100 he will probably never look back

I cannot 'speak for the 100D' nor has what I describe happened to me on the Canon bodies I used to have.

So, on the camera's hotshoe there is a small microswitch. Sometimes when a speedlite (external flash) is mounted when it is removed the microswitch does not always "return" that = the built in flash will not charge and fire.

Edit ~ the microswitch is visible in the rail on the hotshoe.

I am on my phone right now but will try to find some links. ..... AFAIK there is/was a way to restore the function of the microswitch!

You can turn the flash off in the menus - perhaps he has done this accidentally.
