Flash Newbie - remote triggers

Hi All - I'm one of those who regrettably has come to flash late in my learning of the basics of photography and after the Talkphotography event last weekend, realised I very much need to catch up.

I have a Nissin DI622 MkI which I believe is nothing special. I would however like to use this as a remote off camera flash with a little control, so not using the manual buttons on the back.

Is this at all possible using remotes that either pass on the TTL settings or pass on the manual settings (either set on the hot shoe remote or on the cameras settings)?

For TTL off camera you can use an off camera cord, which come in different lengths. For wireless TTL the Pocketwizard Flex system an option.
