Flash head Power output

What are the factors when deciding what power output your flash heads should be.
I am a hobbyist with limited space in my garage. What would be a reasonable output to cover portraits (mostly head and shoulders, as I don't have sufficient space to do more). I would also like to try some product/still life photography.
lastly how may heads are required?

its just practice and find out whats best depending what you are looking for in different portrait styles.

I bought 2 more gemini 400 in a kit today, on the assumption you can always reduce teh output,

yes you can adjust the output, also they will give you more power to.
