I have got the canon 580 flashgun and on friday night when i was shooting, it kept taking a long time for the red light to come back on/recharge back up.

I coudlnt take photo's for 1 minute. It was quite embarrassing.
Does anyone know why this is.

Could it be the batteries?

Soulds like, as the batteries go down it will take longer to recycle.

possibly what were your other settings

was the flash on ttl?
were you shooting like iso 100 f22 something miles away?
were you using high speed sync?
were the alkali or rechargable bats, fresh or empty?

send it to me for testing :D

To be honest with you. Its new to me. And im just trying to figure out how to se the flash.

I have the camera set on iso 200 and F14'ish..

And i change the strength of the light depending on how close the subjects are.. So the flash is on M.

I feel i dont realy know what i'm doing, wish i had some guidance.

And now the flash takes a while to charge up.
Im using some energizer Bats Alkaline, used them twice before.
I have bought some rechargable ones from 7dayshop.com
Which are hydrige AA2500..

OK, sounds like the batteries need recharging. Do that first.

Now set the flash to ETTL, that way the camera system will take care of most things. You can change later once you've gotten things buttoned up.

ISO I'd suggest initially 400 (open to debate)
Aperture about F8.

How many flashes do you think you did before the "red" light failed to illuminate ?

Will try some new Bats out.
I used the flash for about 15 mins before it started delaying.

ok ok got it..
.. IT WAS THE BATTERIES... LOL..
Thanks though.
P.s anyone know any good short courses to go on for learning and understanding photography.
I know the very basics. But really need to get it into my head and the best way would be a course.
Also need to know how to use the flash to its best.
Or any info websites..?

You need decent rechargeables for flashes, if you use regular batteries it'll end up costing you a fortune

Hi Thanks for the feedback.
I bought some rechargeable bats of 7dayshop.com

There AA2500.
Will they be any good?

These are what I use in my nikon sb800 and I have no problems, took 200ish this afternoon at the daughters sports day still going strong.
