I am torn between the Canon 430EX and Sigma EF-500DG Super.
I have never had a seperate flash on a SDLR-last one I owned was on a Canon AE1 35mm-who remembers those!!
Any advise is welcome!!
Thanks
Paul

Never used a Sigma flash but I have the Canon 430ex and it's great. Powerfull and gets some excellent shots!

Has a really good flash head that you can tilt in any direction for bouncing the light off celings and walls.

Also get rechargable batteries with it, I have 2500s which will literally last for a whole week (being used for a few hundred photos every day) and won't even run out!

I'v also used the 580ex wich is excellent, has some great new features compared to the 430ex and is more powerfull.

Thanks 8utters thats good info-fortunately I already have lots of 2700 AA's!!

I just got rid of a sigma and upgraded to the 430ex - that was with the 350D, SO GLAD I DID.

Main problem was the high speed - on the canon flash it remember the setting, on the sigma it forgets it all the time. My advice Canon everytime now. (One Stop Digital)

100% agree. Get the Canon.

Thanks for your help guys.
In the end I bought the EOS40D with 17-85 lens and an EX580 Mk2 from Park Cameras for £1148 less cashback £105 =£1043, which I reckon is a good deal!
Anyway its early days but it all seems awesome kit!

Yeah that's a pretty good deal. The 580 is really good, alot more powerfull than the 430 and has some cool extra features.
