Hi there, i really fancy giving portrait photography a go, and things such as baby pictures(as we're expecting early next year). I've been reading a few things and have been wondering about flashes. I know you can spend the earth of flashes, but are there any recommendations for a beginner level flash? I don't mean beginner = rubbish, but something that would be suitable for me to see if I like this style of photography?

I've seen things like: http://www.mpbphotographic.co.uk/used-equipment/used-flashguns/nissin-di466-flash-/ but have no idea if this would be suitable?

I've got a Canon 500D.

Thanks

Ive also seen some canon speedlights but am not entirely sure how you tell which is suitable for my model, also there are some cheaper alternatives on ebay that i dont know if i should give a wide berth or not, then there is the issue of on camera/off camera.. Im confused! Lol
