Just bought a 100 mm macro lens. Have read about the benefits of using flash for hand held stuff so made an extender for my 580 EX. Don't have anything to use as a diffuser so still getting some hotspots from the flash.
I don't want to spend several hundred pounds at the moment on a dedicated flash such as the MT-24 so I was wondering if it was worth persevering with a DIY extender or getting something like this

My concern with the lastolite is whether it will direct the flash over the top of the subject.
Any recommendations or suggestion gratefully received.
