Fixing blue or green eye in dogs

Hi

Sometimes I HAVE to use the flashgun when photographing dogs. Unfortunately, sometimes it results in the dogs having blue or green eyes.

Any tips for fixing this pp?

I shoot in AV.

Also, can anyone give me any tips to possibly overcome this in the first place. I have a sigma 530 flash.

If I just say that I assess dogs for a rescue and take photos of them, so I don't have the luxury of chosing the time of day when the light is good, nor a nice location etc.:)

If you can get the flash off-axis - on a monopod with a TTL extension cord for example (or in manual).. you should find the problem isn't as bad (or goes away altogether). or bouncing the flash from ceiling or walls (what sort of environment are you shooting in usually?).

Try the free trial version of Lightroom and the red-eye brush (from memory it darkens and desaturates the redness so should work on blue/green). The red-eye removal tool in most photo software should manage this.

Thanks for the reply.

I shoot in the current owners house or flat and or garden (if they have one). Now the nights are drawing in, shooting outside in the evenings will not be possible.

I'll see if I can try the off camera cord (I have two) but with bouncy dogs in a small environment, it might not always be possible. Just wanted to get half decent shots to at least get people interested in the dogs. :) Bless.

Dogs eyes are not the same as ours and even with off axis flash you might still get the 'demon' eyes. Eitherway they should be easy to fix by selecting the pupil, desaturate to take out the colour and then play with brightness and levels to darken the pupil. If you have a picture with the problem perhaps some of us can show you how it's done.
