Hi all

I'm converting the garage into a home studio so I've got somewhere to practice when the mood takes me, and have been wondering about the backdrop....
I have various cloths but wanted something I can leave up semi permanently, so then thought of vinyl, but have been a bit put off by looking on youtube etc, none of them seem flat to me, so my question is, would something like mdf be good? I can use 3 x 1m wide panels per background and paint them white, black, grey etc... Then use vinyl for the floor.

Thoughts please

When you say none of the vinyls lay flat, can you point me to an example ?

I use vinyl for events and they always lie completely flat. The only problem I ever get is if the floor is deep pile carpet and I can't therefore tape the vinyl down.

I think you'll find that it has a lot to do with the thickness and quality of the vinyl, and whether it's actually designed (or fit for) purpose or whether it's actually designed for some other purpose and someone who doesn't know or care is just trying to make a quick buck by selling it as a photographic background.

This thread may help
