Fixation, London - Equipment Repairer.
I recently bought a Nikon 200-400 f4 on the forum ( http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/threads/nikon-200-400mm-f-4-vr.510267/ ) and although it initially seemed to be okay from a visual inspection, over time it was clear that there was a need to adjust the focus. Being unable to do this satisfactorily myself I sent it up to Fixation in London for them to do a clean and re-calibrate for me at a standard service cost of around £140.
I wanted it done as soon as possible so I completed the repair form and ticked it as not requiring an estimate, basically just get on and do it and get it back to me ASAP!
After a few days I got an email from them with an estimate ... they reported that the lens had suffered "impact damage" and was variably out of focus on the left and right, it could not be rectified by adjustment and would require a serious repair, including a number of internal 'tubes' and a VR unit, the estimated cost would be £874:03 inc VAT!
The actual work done was:-
In the circumstances I thought that it was very good that they provided an estimate even though I hadn't required one ... clearly they realised that the repair cost was more than I would be expecting. I gave the go-ahead and the spare parts were ordered from Nikon UK - after a few days the repair had been carried out and I was contacted by 'phone to pay by card, the lens was received the following day.
Having been provided with tracking details, the lens was delivered by UPS ... it came in a very large cardboard box, protected by multiple layers of large 'bubblewrap' type material. Having tested the Lens I am now able to get tack sharp focusing and am very pleased with the repair
Although Fixation were not always prompt to respond to my emails their telephone and repair procedure went well, I was kept informed at various stages of the repair and the final repair has produced top class results - I am happy to recommend them to anyone else.
