I took my 40D to fixation to have the sensor cleaned this morning.
Although the dust bunnies were not too bad I thought perhaps they were putting off people from from buying it.
The chap on the counter took the camera and pointed out that the focus screen was also scratched.
I hadnt noticed this previously but it mustve happened when I refitted it after a careful clean.
I agreed to them replacing it as well as giving the sensor a clean and I also mentioned that I understand if the dust is behind the sensor, there was nothing they could do unless the camera was stripped down.
When I returned I dealt with a woman, paid the bill and fitted my Canon 10-22 and powered up the camera.
When I looked through the viewfinder in daylight I could see that there was even more dust and a nasty smear in the centre.
I went back inside and calmly explained it to the woman, she sighed, took the camera from me and went to see one of their techies.
A few minutes later she returned and in an arrogant tone said they have cleaned it again and the only other thing they can do is to strip the camera down.
I took the camera outside and the smear had gone and so had the rest of the dust.
However, an even bigger dust bunny had now appeared and I was in no mood to go back again.
When I got home I used my sensorklear pen and succeeded in removing the piece of dust.
£50 for a totally crap service from a company who are supposed to be professional.
Perhaps I was asking too much from them to actually be able to remove dust from the surface of the lens without leaving a smear of adding more dust.
Needless to say, I wont be using them again.
