Fitting a ceiling light query

Ok I bought some new ceiling lights from ikea and need to fit them. The issue I have is there are three wires coming from the ceiling that went into the old light, live neutral and earth. But the ikea light only has a connector for live and neutral.

Is that ok? What do I do with the loose earth wire coming from the ceiling? Just tape it up?

Is it a metal light?
If so then normally the earth wire will fit to a a part of the light itself away from the connection) so that it is earthed.

Chances are though the light is double insulated thus no need for an earth connection.

yep.

If it's a class 2 fitting then it doesn't need an earth.

Does the label say Class 2 or show the double insulated symbol? ( two squares, one inside the other) if so no earth is needed, just tape the earth up. I normally fit a connector onto the redundant earth wire and then tape that up - a bit over the top!
The leaflet with the light should show how to connect it.
Some metal fittings are also class 2, they have an extra layer of insulation where it is needed.
