We've got our 1st wedding on Saturday in over 8 years that we are only guests, really looking forward to the day off. As its a very close friend we still may just take a camera with us.
Not sure, will it look a bit OTT to take the 70-200 and the rest of the bag full.
We will not be an "uncle bob" but would like a few pics of the day.
Whats to much kit..!

1 camera ans 1 lens, a 50 mm perhaps is all you should take as a guest imho,

Harrumph! So you'll just take the one bag of kit and just take 'a few pics'

... sounds just like Great Uncle Bob to me! :p ;)

I say take the full kit as a lot of the "pro's" do not have back up and therefore you may well save their bacon. (so long as it is not a Jewish wedding)

If you can park anywhere near the venue I'd put all your kit in the boot and just take what you need with you at the time. I was a guest at a wedding years ago and the tog ended up with a corrupt card and I was the only other person with a decent set of photos covering that period. You just never know if it'll come in handy.

A few week back I was a guest at a family wedding and was not sure what equipment to take like yourself.

Didn't want to turn up with more lenses and bodies than the official photographer, so went along with my 50mm f1.4.

Perfect lens for the day, without looking like a want to be pro.

You said it yourself. 1st one in 8 years where you are guests.
Take a body and a 50mm, and just enjoy your day off !:)

Thanks, I was thinking of the D700 with 50mm, at night there are fire works so may take the kit bag etc, to have a play. Just hope the tog has gone by then, as I am not going to be Uncle Bob.
It will be a bit strange not having to work...but boy am I looking forward to it!
