Hi folks I've had great fun with my SLR since I got it but decided its time to actually get some prints to hold in my hand instead of just looking at them on the monitor so Im going to get some of my pics printed out for the first time and have a wee question. I am wanting to have them all printed at A4 size which I believe is 297mm x 210mm. I have a few odd shaped prints like this one for example though.

If I resize to make longest side 297mm and then request A4 from printer would I get the image as it is but with a blank section filling up the rest of the print on the narrow section or would the printer automatically try and fill the print with the narrow side, stretching it to fit?

hmm Ive not explained that quite as well as I'd like but can't think how else to put it sorry. If anyone understands what I'm getting at and could offer some help it would be very much appreciatted.

It all depends on which printer you use, have a loo at the FAQs on their website, or give them a call.

The way to make sure that you get what you want is to make the an image the correct aspect ratio (297mm x 210mm) then place your image where you want it on the canvas and fill the rest with white space.

Or use a printing service which offers bespoke print sizes.

I've just re read your post and if you are looking at printing at home, adding the whitespace will work, but if you think it is easier just play around with the settings and see what comes out.

Ah thanks Craikey, I never thought of filling canvas size with white doh!, I'm not printing at home, I'm going to try out DS Colour Labs as I've heard some pretty positive comments about them on on the forum as a good choice for cheaper prints.

Tommy.
