Congrats! Which film, which developer? They seem pretty grainy, but then I like grain.

I used Ilford HP5+ 400 in a Nikon F65, with Ilfosol 3 developer. Haven't quite got the right set-up yet for getting the temperatures quite right, so had to improvise. Some of the negatives turned out pretty washed out and flat, but this is better than what I was expecting on my first attempt.

My Brother in Law gave me 60 odd rolls of HP5+. Mostly in 35mm but a handful of 120 too.

I have a Diana F+ to play with as well so looking to get some practice in with he 35mm stuff before I let myself loose with that.

Good stuff, Tim. It is a good feeling, isn't it? I've only done half a dozen, but it's much more rewarding than sending films away.

They are a bit grainy, as Keith says. I've not shot much HP5, partly for this reason, but with 60 odd rolls, at least you've got a chance to experiment with different approaches. Maybe shooting at 250 might help? Still process as per normal...

Someone who knows more should be along soon with some real advice!

As already mentioned, they are grainy ( not that it bothers me too much) but for a first developing attempt then I'd give you 9.9 / 10 ...Well done!(y)

The shot of the knotted rope statue with the houses in the BG is brill .....just gotta love the perspective;)

for the temp, you can get compensation graphs and charts, thats what i use most of the time

Sorry I missed that bit. For black and white with Ilfosol the temperature is not a critical issue. It wants to be 20C, which is about room temperature and the temperature that water comes out of our cold tap when I first turn it on. I tend to fill the first jug (check its temperature and if necessary add a dash of hot water) and use it for mixing the chems, then fill several more jugs for washing, where the temperature is not so critical. All that happens first thing as I'm setting up. I must remember to get the dev crate out of the garage earlier, though, as the actual chems are probably a bit cold!

Cheers guys. Just can't wait to go out and get some more now. Anyone have any good places to buy film from?

Although this thread is a couple of years old, most of the suggestions are relevant: https://www.talkphotography.co.uk/threads/buying-film-in-the-uk.483233/

Lots of places stock film, and there is rarely one place that is cheaper across the board - look everywhere! Even Amazon and Boots sell film, so it's not just specialist photographic stores. There may be shops local to you which are more expensive, but work out cheaper once you factor in saving on P&P.

It's exactly as @freecom2 has said; there's no one single place that's cheapest for film, so it'd be wise to investigate and shop around, both online and locally, whenever you're looking to purchase any film.
